Halloween on Mahon: Hansel and Gretel and the Gingerbread House

What does Halloween have to do with biodynamics? Halloween is an ancient festival that can have a deep meaning, but has increasingly turned into materialism and pollution. It can bring fear and anxiety to the small children. Halloween on Mahon has become a neighborhood tradition where a place of peace and beauty has been created. Halloween is the moment of transition toward the more inward time of the year. It is a ‘hallowed’ evening where the invisible beings, the elemental beings, are entering into the earth.
The children feel this intuitively. The grownups can get a glimpse. There is magic, beauty and peace created while all around the fireworks are cracking. A safe place is created in a time of unrest. The biodynamic preparation of Valerian 508, if applied a few times prior to the event, brings a sheath of warmth to the area. Valerian, the vibrant plant, has gathered the warmth during summer and this warmth protects and soothes nature.
The preparation starts a few weeks prior where friends and neighbors help with creating the decorations.
This year’s theme inspired young and old to make witches and Hansel and Gretel. On Halloween day, this
site has become to go to for the neighbors and many from far and near. Children can explore the Ginger
bread house, send walnut boats down a river in the park and put small cardboard witches into the fire. It isa night to remember!
